GUIDELINES and SELECTION CRITERIA

Organization

Applicant must be a 501(c)(3) public charity in good standing and must be operating or proposing a program that serves children or youth in northern Nevada.

Grant Amount

You may indicate any amount on your Expression of Interest Form. Please note that you are not “locked in” to this amount. If you are selected to apply for a grant, you may change the amount to a lesser or greater number as you refine your budget assumptions, or we may work with you to agree on a different amount. If you have a big, bold program to propose, together with the capacity to execute, we will consider awarding a large grant. We strongly support programs that have the potential to bring about dramatic change for the better. We welcome proposals for programs that have the potential to bring about systemic change and to be replicated elsewhere.

While we will consider any grant amount, it is not practical for us to enter into grant agreements for amounts less than $30,000.

Probable Timeline

As with the grant amount, you are not “locked in” to the timeline you propose in your Expression of Interest Form. If you are invited to apply for a grant, it is expected that your proposed timeline may change. In general, though, Wavedance avoids providing funding beyond a two-year period. We will consider exceptions for big, bold projects that require a longer timeline.

Narrative

We intentionally limit your narrative to a single page. In this preliminary communication, we only expect to see an outline of the key features of your program or project. This is where you tell us why your proposal merits funding.

Please adhere to the single-page limit, using a typeface no smaller than 12 point.

SELECTION CRITERIA

In deciding whether to submit an Expression of Interest Form, please keep the following in mind:

  • We are currently seeking to support organizations that specifically target better outcomes for children and youth who have experienced neglect, abuse or adversity.

  • We also support programs that proactively intervene to prevent trauma for children who have been identified as at-risk.

If you are invited to submit a Grant Application, the criteria outlined below will be considered when reviewing your proposal. In your Expression of Interest Form, you will not have space to address the following topics, but we want you to be aware of our criteria to help you decide whether to pursue Wavedance funding.

To be considered, your expression of interest must not exceed two pages:

1. Expression of Interest Form (provided)

2. Single page Narrative

In evaluating Grant Applications, we look closely at the following:

Alignment with the Wavedance Fund mission: The extent to which the project or program helps to develop life skills, confidence and resilience in the lives of children and youth who have experienced neglect, abuse or adversity.

Feasibility: The likelihood of successful implementation, based on the organization’s capacity, key strategies and budget.

Sustainability: The potential for the project to continue and thrive beyond the funding period. Preference will be given to programs that are intended to be enduring and sustainable, as opposed to fulfilling short-term needs.

Impact: The potential impact of the project on the target population.

Innovation and Creativity: The degree to which the project or program introduces new approaches or expands current services in creative ways with the goal of improving outcomes. We value initiatives that have the potential to bring about systemic change for the better and to be replicated elsewhere.
